Hens & Haircuts Prostate Awareness Event for men 40+ in Americus

AMERICUS, Ga. – Men aged 40 and older are invited to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Americus this Saturday for the free Hens & Haircuts event. The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon at 411 Cotton Avenue and combines health screenings with community connection.

Participants can enjoy a free frozen chicken and a fresh haircut while also taking advantage of a prostate screening via blood draw. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among men, making early detection especially important.

The event is organized by Phoebe Health, the Morehouse School of Medicine, and local partners including Americus Holiness Deliverance Temple and Union Tabernacle Baptist Church. It’s a unique opportunity to focus on your health while enjoying a morning with the community.

Sisters in Service of Southwest Georgia and our community partners are advocates for the upcoming Hens & Haircuts Prostate Awareness Event.  In collaboration with Mr. Darrell Sabbs, Phoebe Health & Sponsors, we are engaging the Women Voices on the importance of PSA Health screening.  We will conduct a Post-Screening Give-A-Way which is a 50-inch Flat Screen TV.  There will also be drawings for fishing equipment, a $50 gift card from Code Black ATL and a $50 Gas Card from IBRI Builders.

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide. It is estimated that over 300,000 new cases will be diagnosed in the United States this year.

Early detection is crucial, as prostate cancer has a high survival rate when caught in its early stages.

Risk factors include age, family history, and race.

We encourage all men in SW Georgia over the age of 40 to attend the upcoming Hens and Haircuts/Prostate Screening Event this Saturday, September 27 from 10 am to Noon at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Americus.

Participants will get free haircuts, a hen and the aforementioned drawing to win a 50-inch flat screen TV and fishing equipment.  Spread the word!
