The crash occurred around 12:09 a.m.
Investigators said the officer had stopped a Nissan on the east shoulder of I-75 and was seated inside his marked patrol car with emergency lights activated when the Camaro veered out of the northbound lane and struck the rear of the patrol vehicle.
The impact forced the patrol car into the back of the Nissan, authorities said. All three vehicles were pushed off the roadway.
The officer died at the scene from his injuries. The driver of the Camaro also suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at South Georgia Medical Center.
GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident.
