GSP warns against drunk driving during New Year’s celebrations

ALBANY, Ga. – And… speaking of law enforcement with New Year’s Eve fast approaching, state troopers are going to be out on the road throughout the rest of the year.

Sergeant Russ Covington with Post 40 in Dougherty county says the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) will have all hands on deck through the 31st, and keeping an eye out for drunk drivers.

Covington says that despite new years’ falling in the middle of the week, they aren’t letting up, when it comes to cracking down.

“It is typically a heavily traveled holiday for drinkers and those who want to get out and celebrate. And, although it’s during the week, we still expect quite a good bit of people to celebrate. Lots of people have the day off, schools are out, people are visiting. So, there will be a usual amount of activity out and we’re going to be out there to enforce the traffic laws and do what we can to keep the Albany area safe,” Sgt. Russ Covington, GSP Post 40.

And… the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) would like to remind you that if you’re going to celebrate New Year’s to have a designated driver.
