Grady County Superintendent of Schools passes away
CAIRO, Ga. – Grady County Schools made the announcement late Sunday evening that Superintendent Dr. Eric McFee unexpectedly passed away.
According to a post on the school district’s Facebook page, Dr. McFee’s passing was “unexpected” and is a “tremendous loss” for the school district. Chief Operations Officer Michael Best will temporarily step into the role as “point of contact” for the district.
An interim Superintendent will be named during a regularly scheduled school board meeting on Tuesday, November 11th.
Dr. McFee has served as Grady County’s Superintendent of Schools since April 2022. Dr. McFee previously served as the principal of Cook County High School from 2018 to 2022.

“It is with profound sadness that the Grady County Board of Education announces the unexpected passing of our Superintendent, Dr. Eric McFee. Dr. McFee was a dedicated leader whose vision and commitment to our students, staff, and community left an enduring impact on the Grady County School System.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. McFee’s family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched during this most difficult time.
Until further notice, Chief Operations Officer Michael Best will serve as the point of contact for the Grady County School System.
The Board of Education will name an interim superintendent during our regularly scheduled board meeting on Tuesday evening.
We ask for the community’s continued prayers and support for Dr. McFee’s family and the entire Grady County School System as we grieve this tremendous loss.”
