Grady County Sheriff’s Office holds special event at The West Hunting Camp
CAIRO, Ga. – On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, something truly special happened. Sheriff Martin Earl Prince had the honor of swearing in Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel as a law enforcement officer—marking a historic first: the very first sheriff in the State of Georgia to do so.
This ceremony also marks DJ’s 3,101st official swearing-in, with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office proudly becoming the 3,101st agency to recognize this remarkable young man.
At just 13 years old, DJ has shown the kind of courage and determination that inspires everyone around him. Battling terminal brain and spinal cancer since 2018, DJ set out with a dream: to be sworn in by 100 law enforcement agencies. Today, he has far surpassed that goal—now honored by over 3,000 departments nationwide, including the U.S. Secret Service.
DJ’s mission isn’t just about badges—it’s about raising awareness for childhood cancer, honoring the officers who helped his family during Hurricane Harvey, and reminding us all of the power of faith, resilience, and service.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Nicki West and her family for graciously hosting this powerful event at The West Hunting Camp. Your hospitality and support made this day even more meaningful for DJ and everyone involved.
Despite recent news of new tumors, DJ continues to stand tall with a heart full of hope and a smile that never fades. His message remains the same:
“Believe in God. Stay out of trouble. And, always pray for the kids who have cancer.”
Please keep DJ and his family in your prayers. Let us all carry forward his example of strength, purpose, and compassion.
