Good Life Family Health Fest held over the weekend
The event included free healthy checkups, plant-based food, and wellness education.
ALBANY, Ga. – Veggie & Soul and Healthy Life Albany encourage the Good Life City to take control of their health.
This weekend, Veggie & Soul, SOWEGA Rising, along with Healthy Life Albany hosted the “Good Life Family Health Fest.”
The event included free healthy checkups, plant-based food, and wellness education.
“The goal, the vision, the organization of the event really came from just looking at where we are as a community in Albany. Wanting to approach a health fair with the theme of lifestyle medicine; focusing on nutrition, physical activity, and reducing stress. So, we wanted to look at all these wholistic areas of health and show people how they can take control of their own bodies just by doing simple things,” said Dr. Samara Sterling, Nutrition Scientist and Director of Veggie & Soul.
The youth of Albany had many of activities to enjoy at the health fest as well.
“There was multiple swing sets and play areas you could play on. There was food you could eat. You could go around and get food from a lot of places. There was a bouncy house, there was an ice cream place. All sorts of amazing food here, and I am very thankful to be here,” said Phillip Moise, Good Life Family Health Fest participant.
Pastor Morris Barnes, of Emmanuel Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA), talks about collaborating with Veggie & Soul and Healthy Life Albany.
“I come from a place where individuals are so self conscious and so I wanted to bring that here in Albany, and I ran into a member at my church, Dr. Samara Sterling. And, so, we collaborated, we realized that we had the same vision, the same goals, and that we wanted to affect change in the city of Albany. To show people a better way of eating and living in the most holistic way possible,” said Morris Barnes, Pastor of Emmanuel SDA Church.
