Getting ‘hooked’ on fishing, Turner County Recreation Fishing Rodeo to be held Saturday

The event will take place Saturday at the Turner Recreation Center from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

TURNER COUNTY, Ga. – Some people say that fishing is a lost art but I say it reels in the real athletes.

The Turner County Parks and Recreation Center is hosting a fishing rodeo, where they’ll teach kids ages 4 to 10 how to fish.

“We have two nice ponds and we just want to get kids back to playing outside like it was when we grew up,” said Clifford Jordan, Director of Turner Recreation.

The pond will be filled with numerous amounts of different fish.

“We have catfish, bass, brim, perch, so it’s loaded, we put over 2,000 fish in here,” he said.

This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Turner County Commission.

“When we took over this pond it was taken over with grass and weeds so thanks to the county commissioners, they allowed us to get the pond cleaned up and we want to start utilizing what we have,” he said.

The event will take place Saturday at the Turner Recreation Center from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
