Georgia Southwestern State University’s annual Teddy Bear Toss returns to Americus this Wednesday

AMERICUS, Ga. – A beloved Georgia Southwestern tradition is back this week as the university hosts its annual Teddy Bear Toss at the Storm Dome on Wednesday, February 25.

The event takes place during Georgia Southwestern State University’s men’s basketball game, tipping off at 7:45 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used stuffed animal to toss onto the court after the Hurricanes score their first basket of the night.

Anyone who brings a stuffed animal will receive free admission to the game. All donated toys will be collected and distributed to children in need through Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and local community partners.

The evening features a full slate of basketball action, beginning with the women’s game at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s matchup later that night.

Now in its fifth year, the Teddy Bear Toss has become a favorite community tradition. Last year’s event brought in more than 3,000 stuffed animals, helping spread comfort and joy to children across the region.

The event is a fun way for fans to support GSW athletics while giving back and making a positive impact in the community.

Businesses or organizations interested in supporting the Teddy Bear Toss can contact Assistant Athletic Director Caitlin Downs at caitlin.downs@gsw.edu.
