Georgia Department of Agriculture monitoring equine virus outbreak in Midwest states
ATLANTA, Ga. – According to a post on the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA)’s Facebook page, State Agricultural Commissioner Tyler Harper is closely monitoring an equine virus outbreak in the Midwest states:
“We are monitoring an outbreak of Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV-1), including Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM), associated with equine events in Oklahoma and Texas. There have been no reports of EHV-1/EHM in Georgia at this time.”
“GDA is advising horse owners who have attended an equine event in Texas or Oklahoma, within the last 3 weeks, to contact their veterinarian, isolate their horses, and implement twice daily temperature monitoring under the guidance of their veterinarian.”
