GDOT: Bellview Road to close for replacement of bridge over Big Drain Creek in Miller county

MILLER Co., Ga. – What: Bellview Road is scheduled to close to non-local traffic in early February for replacement of the bridge over Big Drain Creek. The bridge is located about five miles east of the city of Colquitt and was built in 1962. It has posted vehicle weight limits due to its condition. The new bridge will have two 10-foot travel lanes with 4.875-foot shoulders. The construction contract is approximately $1.8 million.

The bridge is being replaced as part of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Low Impact Bridge Program. It helps local governments replace bridges that are deficient or had to be closed due to deterioration and safety concerns. Cost and replacement time are reduced because the road is closed during construction instead of building a detour bridge on site. The use of prefabricated components also shortens construction time.

Where: Bellview Road over Big Drain Creek in Miller County. Only local traffic will be allowed to access the road. Other traffic will be directed to detour using Johnny Freeman Road and State Route 91. Detour signs will be posted.

When: The road is scheduled to close Monday, Feb. 2. This is subject to change. The contractor is allowed to close the road for a maximum of 150 calendar days.
