GBI Requested to Investigate Officer Involved Shooting in Seminole County

DONALSONVILLE, GA – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Seminole County, GA. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on April 7, 2023. One man was shot and has been transported to an out of town hospital where he is receiving medical care for his injuries. No deputies were seriously injured in this incident.

Preliminary information indicates that the man had been arrested last night after a traffic crash and subsequent D.U.I. charge. He was being transported to the Seminole County Jail earlier this morning where he was able to get away from deputies and steal a Seminole County patrol vehicle parked at the jail.

Deputies gave chase and were able to catch up to the male. A Deputy was attempting to get the male out of the stolen patrol vehicle when a struggle ensued that led to the shooting. The male was struck once, but still able to drive off again before being stopped again in a second location where he fought several deputies while still resisting arrest. The male was then tased without effect, and was able to take a taser from a deputy at this location. The man was eventually restrained and arrested by deputies on scene. He was taken to a hospital where he has since been transferred to an out of town hospital for additional medical treatment.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation into the incident. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Pataula Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
