GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Sumter Co.

AMERICUS, Ga. – On Wednesday night, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the GBI for an investigation regarding an officer involved shooting in Americus.

At around 8:15 p.m., Sumter County officers responded to a call for a domestic situation where the caller stated an intoxicated male was acting erratic while in possession of a weapon.

Officers arrived at the home on the 1100 block of South Georgia Tech Parkway in Americus. Officers tried to communicate with 45-year-old Jamie Lynn Still, to drop his rifle.

He went outside where he started firing at officers, and then one of the officers shot Still.

Officers entered the home, where they found the caller and three children who were all uninjured.

EMS arrived on the scene to perform first aid to still before he died on the scene. His body was then transferred to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed.
