G.O. Bailey Elementary School in Tifton collects Valentine’s Day postcards ‘Hearts Around the U.S. & Mexico’

TIFTON, Ga. – G.O. Bailey Elementary School in Tifton receives heartfelt Valentine’s Day messages from all across the world.

G.O. Bailey is collecting Valentine’s Day postcards from around the globe, expanding beyond its initial focus on the U.S. and Mexico.

The initiative began after Assistant Principal of G.O. Bailey Elementary School, Sarah Swan discovered the idea on social media and was inspired to bring it to the school.

“I always say school should be a fun learning environment. So, when you have things such as this for all of our students to participate in, it really gives everybody something to talk about and build that community. And, there’s so many things that they have discussed while looking at these maps. They’ve talked about geographical locations. We’ve encouraged them to read the cards and they’ve learned some very interesting facts,” said Sarah Swan, G.O. Bailey Elementary Assistant Principal.

A vibrant display showcases the postcards along with their senders, with red hearts on each state representing the location.

Now, let’s hear from some of the students…

Even the teachers’ families got involved, adding to the excitement.

“My grandma sent us some cards from Mexico, so she did tell me that they don’t have any postcards. So, what she had to do was she had to get some pictures, print them out, and then she had to send them through DHL. That way we could get them in,” said Stephanie Garcia, G.O. Bailey Elementary ESOL Paraprofessional.

“As a military spouse of over 30 years. And, he and I met lots of friends and former teachers all around the world. And, so, I was so happy to see their support and sending us cards from Alaska, Hawaii, Illinois,” said Misty Bass, G.O. Bailey Elementary EIP Teacher.

With love pouring in from all over the world, G.O. Bailey’s students are embracing the Valentine’s Day spirit, one postcard at a time.

“Well, we just appreciate all the support from all of our family and friends from all over the United States, Mexico and other areas of the world,” said Swan.
