Former President Jimmy Carter dies Sunday at 100, Funeral services announced

PLAINS, Ga. – The nation and State of Georgia is mourning the loss of its most famous President, as former President, Jimmy Carter passed away Sunday.

The 39th President of the United States passed away at the age of 100 Sunday after being in hospice for nearly two years.

There’s definitely a somber feel here in downtown Plains following the announcement of former President Carter’s passing.

People have been in and out of Plains today to honor the memory of former President Carter.

In fact, I spoke with a few people today, some of whom are from Plains and knew the Carter family.

They say today is bittersweet, but that they should celebrate the life of Jimmy Carter.

Carter of course famous for his humanitarian efforts after his term in office. Something he did, even in the years leading up to his time in hospice care.

He had only made a couple of appearances since, those being for the funeral of his wife, former First Lady Rosalyn Carter in 2023 and this past October where his family celebrated his 100th birthday.

And… while many of the people who came to Plains to see the history and the people who live here are sad to see Jimmy go, they’re relieved to know he’s at peace.

President Joe Biden has announced a state funeral service for Carter on January 9th.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Carter family and friends.
