Florida man arrested after he nearly shoots Cook Co. deputy in towing incident

ADEL, Ga. – At approximately 3:24 a.m. Thursday morning the Cook County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a man on I-75.

Rafael Rodriguez Morey, of Citrus Springs, Florida was found “uncooperative” upon deputies’ arrival, according to a release.

His vehicle was out of gas with a drained battery with a tow truck called.

Morey reportedly refused to leave his vehicle so his SUV were towed to a Circle K gas station in Adel.

Morey then reportedly attempted to drive his vehicle off of the tow truck.

Deputies arrived and attempted to enter his vehicle with a window punch, Morey allegedly pointed a handgun and shot a deputy.

The bullet went through the deputy’s pants without hitting him.

Morey dropped his pistol then was tased by law enforcement after a “brief struggle” with law enforcement.

Morey faces aggravated assault charges and was transported to the Cook County Jail.
