Fitzgerald Police officers hospitalized due to suspected fentanyl exposure
FITZGERALD, Ga. – A message from William Smallwood, Fitzgerald Chief of Police:
WARNING: If you smoke crack, meth, or any other illegal drug and have purchased recently, you need to dispose of or destroy these drugs immediately.
The Fitzgerald Police Department has responded to multiple calls involving possible overdoses. Five individuals, including three Fitzgerald Police Officers, have been transported to the ER due to fentanyl exposure.
The officers were reportedly exposed through mere presence and inhalation. Authorities believe there may have been a delivery of drugs containing a high dosage of fentanyl.
Anyone with information about the source or distribution of these drugs is urged to contact 911 or the Fitzgerald Police Department at (229) 426-5000.
Fentanyl is extremely dangerous and can be deadly even in trace amounts. Please remain vigilant, and never handle or come into contact with unknown substances.
