Fire near Rhythm & Ribs Festival catches 12 vehicles on fire, 7 totaled, 5 charred

TIFTON, Ga. – On Saturday afternoon, March 1st, a grassy area located on Sixth Street and Tift Avenue where vehicles were parked near the Rhythm and Ribs Festival in Tifton caught fire.

At 3:24 p.m., Tifton Fire Department (TFD) responded to the scene and it took 45 minutes to put out the blaze. A total of 12 vehicles caught fire with 7 being totaled, and 5 others charred.

The flames were contained by firefighters and the fire did not affect the festival which was being held in Fulwood Park on Eighth Street.

No one was injured and no one was evacuated from the festival due to the fire.

Fire officials said the dry grass and elevated wind speeds allowed the fire to spread more rapidly than it would have otherwise.

It is unclear the cause of the fire at this time.
