Final round of Good Life City Holiday Classic middle school basketball tournament crowns champions

ALBANY, Ga. – And, back at the Albany Civic Center for some South Georgia middle school basketball.

Earlier in the week, I visited for the Good Life City Holiday Classic. And, now, it’s the final round. One boys team and one girls team will be crowned champion.

And, what better ending than having 2 cross town rivals in both championship games.

The girls game being Albany Middle vs Merry Acres…

The 1st half was full of highlight plays.

Mainly on defense as the physically was showing.

Both teams only had one field goal!

With there points mainly consisting of free throws.

But, in the 2nd half it really picked up.

And, Albany Middle was on fire.

Turning their defense into offense.

And, eventually crushing there way to a championship win 28-16.

“It feels good. You got to speak everything you want into existence. And, we did. We got that championship,” said D’Erika Quimbley, Coach, Albany Middle School.

“It feels like I work hard for it and I improve on everything I do,” said Joniyah Jones, Girls MVP.

The Boys final matchup.

Was Merry Acres vs Radium Springs…

The first half was like ping pong.

Going back and forth with buckets.

But, the X factor for Radium was the MVP.

Robert Adams as he put up 22 points.

Which would eventually lead to non-stop points on fast breaks for Radium.

And, in the end would win the championship game over Merry Acres 51-36.

“I played for my teammates, coaches. Love them for everything they did. Shoutout Coach Gilbert he coached me since 6th grade. But, he coached me and developed me, so I thank him for everything,” said Robert Adams, Boys MVP.

“That feels good. I’m proud of the guys. More for them. For the city, you know, just to represent Albany. I appreciate it,” said  Coach Gilbert, Radium Springs Head Coach.

This was the second Good Life Holiday Classic Tournament.

And, was a great environment throughout.
