FabOver40 fundraiser competition event raises money for National Breast Cancer Foundation

ALBANY, Ga. – Brenda Houston is partaking in FabOver40, an event to help raise money for breast cancer put on by the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

She sat down with CBS 44 reporter Gabe Hutton to tell us more…

I am here joined by Brenda Houston to talk about a very personal topic with you. Can we just get started, by if you could tell me, what is the FabOver40 competition?

“The FabOver40 competition is a breast cancer awareness competition that is sponsored by the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This is how they solicit funds to do the things they do, and provide the services that they do to women during their journey of breast cancer,” said Brenda Houston, competitor.

Then could you go more in depth why, National Breast Cancer Foundation does support the FabOver40.

“They support the affordable because that’s part of their mission. And, their mission is to to help and to inspire hope and to those that are affected by breast cancer, through education, through support services and through early detection. And, that’s for a woman at any stage of her journey in breast cancer. It could be stage four, two, 3 or 4,” said Houston.

What other points about the National Breast Cancer Foundation struck you so closely? I know you have some different topics.

“One of the support services they provide is the one for metastatic retreat, the metastatic retreat for women that are in the last stage of breast cancer. And at the time, my mom, she passed away from breast cancer at the young age of 55. And, she was in stage four when she got her diagnosis. So, what they do is provide a weekend retreat, all expenses paid for these women. And, for some of them, this is their last vacation, you know, the last vacation that they can have. And, so, this is why this affair for the competition and why the National Breast Cancer Foundation touched my heart and I’m passionate about it,” said Houston.

Then I see this jar right here in front of us. Could you tell me a little bit about the jar and its significance?

“Yes you can. This is a God idea. This came to me as a Cornelius donation jar. So, what are you doing? They are in several businesses. In the area. What do you do? You don’t put money in it. You just simply scan either the top or you scan the side, and it’ll take you to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. And you can make a donation, a tax deductible donation, to the foundation,” said Houston.
