EF-1 tornado confirmed in Crisp Co.

CORDELE, Ga. – Crisp county is under a local State of Emergency after what is now confirmed to be an EF-1 tornado impacted areas around Lake Blackshear early this morning.

Around 4:45 a.m., the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Crisp and surrounding counties.

And, as of late this afternoon, a survey team confirmed an EF-1 tornado with maximum winds of 100 mph.

The storm caused structural damage to homes, toppling numerous trees and power lines in the Scenic Route and Cedar Creek areas of the lake.

Crisp EMA has advised residents to shelter in place while officials evaluate the damage, citing concerns about potential gas leaks.

A command center has been set up by Crisp EMA at Lake Blackshear Baptist Church, located at 650 South Coney Road.
