Ed Newsome wins in close race for Dougherty Co. Commission District 1 seat

ALBANY, Ga. – Ed Newsome, a lifelong Albany resident and graduate of Albany High School, currently serves as the CEO of Albany Air Conditioning and Heating.

However, his greatest pride comes from being re-elected by the Dougherty County community.

“Well, it feels exuberant. I appreciate the support that district one has given me last term. And, this term, it’s always hectic running a campaign it’s fast pace. It’s been a long time. And, you know, you just have to work hard at it and you have to get on the street, knock on doors and talk to people. And, it’s just long days. But, you know, in the end, it’s basically rewarding. So I have personally enjoyed being the commissioner of district one,” said Ed Newsome (R), Commissioner-elect, Dougherty Co. District 1.

The race was incredibly tight, with Newsome edging out his opponent 53% to 47%. I had to ask him about the emotions he felt on Election Day.

“Well, that’s a good question. I don’t really have any feelings because I don’t have any idea you know, except when the polls close and then you start getting numbers. So, then it tenses you up somewhat obviously, but because you don’t know. There’s four precincts and in district one, and so you get them precinct by precinct, you don’t get them all at one time. So, you, you know, you look at the precinct and say, okay, this is fine, this is fine. And, then, you just do the numbers,” said Newsome.

Ed Newsome will serve another four years as Dougherty County Commissioner for District 1.

And, said he’s happy to now do his part in Dougherty county.
