Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office to host 2nd annual Easter Egg Extravaganza
This is the Albany-Dougherty Youth Unit's 2nd annual Easter Egg Extravaganza.
ALBANY, Ga. – Easter weekend in nearly upon us, and the Albany-Dougherty Youth Unit (ADYU), along with the Albany Police and Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office will hold their second annual Easter egg extravaganza.
Quinlan Parker South Georgia Television News talked with Sergeant Anthony Bell with the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, the event coordinator about this weekends event and what the ADYU is all about.
“We take out as much times we can with them. By going up to the schools, checking on their grades, we have interventions with them. We talk to them about different routes to take in life, and we take out a whole lot of time with them.” said Sgt. Bell.
This year’s extravaganza will be a little different and special as they honor Lt. Luther Lane. Sgt. Bell tells me that Lt. Lane played a vital role in his life putting him on the right track.
“…when I was first growing up, and was telling me I was on the wrong path. So with coming after him it means a lot to the Albany-Dougehrty Youth Unit and also I had a personal relationship with him and we want to keep it going in this loving memory because he did so much great things for kids in the community.” said Sgt. Bell.
Sgt. Bell adds that the reason they are so passionate in doing community involved events is to make a connection with the public and law enforcement.
“We wanna build a bridge with the community, with how the community looks at law enforcement and build a great relationship with them and we would love to see the smiles on the kids face as they come out and receive their Easter eggs.” said Sgt. Bell.
Last year’s turnout was great, according to Sgt. Anthony. He’s hoping that remains this year as they will have 15 vendors setup along with a D.J.
“Last year it was pretty much a drive-thru, it’ll be a drive-thru again. It was a good turnout and we’re hoping to have another good turnout with the kids and we would like to see the smiles on the parents and kids face, because we’re living in a time right now, it’s not really nothing to smile about, we want everybody to come down, let their hair down and let’s smile about something for a change.” said Sgt. Bell.
Sgt. Lane was promoted to Lieutenant posthumously. The ADYU also has a special thanks for Sheriff Sproul Dougherty County School Superintendent Kenneth Dyer, Albany Police Chief Michael Persley, and Chief Deputy Hayes.
The Easter extravaganza is set to start at 1 and last until 3 p.m., this Saturday, April 16, 2022 at the rear of the Civic Center located at 100 W. Oglethorpe Blvd.
