Dougherty County School System addresses school threats

ALBANY, Ga. – This afternoon, Dougherty County School System officials held a press conference about 5 gun violence-related threats.

Police Chief Troy Conley announced that 12 students, aged 12 to 15, have been arrested.

Superintendent Kenneth Dyer said the students face charges of terroristic threats and acts, with more charges and arrests expected.

“Well, you know, we take all threats, as if they’re actual threats. We take all threats seriously. It’s sad that in this day and age, you know, we have to deal with these types of situations. But, we constantly stay in contact with our administrators, our local law enforcement. Currently, we’re working closely with the GBI and Homeland Security. More or less, you know, keeping them abreast of what we’ve been enduring here in Dougherty county. Like I said before, it’s sad that students and sometimes adults engage in this type of deviant behavior,” said DCSS Police Chief Troy Conley.

“Well, as I said multiple times, in the past, the safety and security of our students, faculty, staff and guests is our number one priority. And, I want our students and their families to know that we will do everything we can to ensure their safety. We have enhanced security measures that we put in place. We have basic security measures that we have in place at all times. And, anytime there’s a threat made, we take it seriously until we can determine whether or not, is credible,” said Kenneth Dyer, Superintendent.

Police and school officials are still investigating two additional school threat cases.

Authorities urge parents and guardians to talk with their students about the serious consequences of making threats.
