Dougherty County Public Library’s “Adventure Begins at Your Library” Summer Reading Program

ALBANY, Ga. – The Dougherty County Public Library aims to keep children’s minds active this summer, with its engaging programs.

The library’s summer reading program is in full swing, designed to help children maintain and enhance their reading skills and other academic abilities they acquired during the school year.

“Reading is very important and kids need to continue reading over the summer, otherwise they might start slipping in their reading abilities. And, it’s just really good to continue that practice over the summertime. Due to kids being out of school right now, we do have a few more activities planned than we normally would just because you can’t do too much when schools are in session, but whenever school’s out, you aren’t quite as limited with hours. So, we do have a lot more programs planned for the kids over the summer,” said Sarah Shelton, Senior Branch Manager of Northwest Library.

Sarah Shelton, Senior Branch Manager of the Northwest Library, outlines the variety of events and activities available through the Dougherty County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program.

The program provides engaging opportunities for all age groups throughout the summer.

“Well, we had a lot of fun activities planned for kids. Everything from magic shows to crafts. A little bit of everything, and we also have stuff for older children as well, such as young adult teens. We have a little bit of everything planned for everyone of all ages,” said Shelton.

Sarah Shelton explains how individuals can access the schedule for the Dougherty County Public Library’s Educational Summer Reading Program. She also provides a preview of the latest programs introduced at the library.

“The calendars for this summer’s programs that will be taking place can be found on our Facebook page, on our website. It can be picked up at the front desk. After the program is completed, you can always come to the front desk and check books out. We also will have someone in the children’s area that will be happy to assist in locating books for children. We actually have just started a new program. We are actually going to be writing letters to a few people at a library that’s actually located in Albany, New York. So, Albany, New York and Albany, Georgia, are going to be connecting over the summer. So, this is very exciting. But, more information about that will be happy to share with you, either in person or through one of our different resources online,” said Shelton.

Dougherty County Public Library’s “Adventure Begins at Your Library” Summer Reading Program runs through July 23rd.
