Dougherty Co. traffic stop leads to marijuana drug bust, suspect arrested
ALBANY, Ga. – The Dougherty County Police encountered a routine traffic stop that swiftly turned into a major drug bust this week.
Around 2:15 pm on Wednesday, the Albany-Dougherty County Drug Unit assisted in a traffic stop on Moultrie Road in the 1900 block, conducted by Dougherty County Police.
During the traffic stop, vigilant officers discovered a large duffle bag in the possession of the driver, identified as 44-year-old Christopher Lawrence. The bag’s contents immediately raised suspicion, prompting a thorough inspection. Inside, a significant amount of marijuana was discovered, leading to Lawrence’s immediate arrest.
Christopher Lawrence faces charges of speeding and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
The investigation yielded around 5 ½ pounds of marijuana and approximately 85 grams of an unknown white substance. The unknown substance will undergo testing at the crime lab, and pending results, additional charges may be filed.
Alongside the narcotics, $4,026 dollars in U .S. Currency was seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
