Dougherty Co. EMS Director Sam Allen Announces Retirement, Dougherty Co. Appoints James Gibney as Interim EMS Director

Dougherty County has named James Gibney as Interim Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director, bringing nearly two decades of experience in public safety to the role. Gibney, who currently serves as the Assistant EMS Director, has dedicated more than 17 years to serving the community in various public safety capacities. A United States Army veteran, he is a licensed paramedic in Georgia and holds a degree in paramedicine. His commitment to education is evident in his role as an adjunct instructor at Albany Technical College, where he has helped train the next generation of paramedics.

Additionally, Gibney is certified as a Critical Care Paramedic and Flight Paramedic through the International Board of Specialty Certification, further demonstrating his expertise and dedication to advancing EMS standards in Dougherty County.

“James is exceptionally passionate about providing high-quality EMS services to the residents of Dougherty County,” said Dougherty County Administrator Deron King. “His extensive background and commitment to excellence make him an ideal choice to lead our EMS during this transition.”

Gibney will be formally introduced to the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners and the community during the Regular Meeting on March 3, 2025. His appointment as Interim EMS Director takes effect on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
