Dougherty Co. Coroner Michael Fowler speaks at Albany Tech’s TEAAMS Monthly Empowerment Session

ALBANY, Ga. – Dougherty County Coroner, Michael Fowler, spoke to students at Albany Technical College (ATC) during a local Empowering African Americans to Succeed (TEAAMS) Monthly Empowerment Session.

The local TEAAMS program is designed to equip African American students with essential skills to help them overcome internal and external challenges on their path to success.

During his talk at Albany Technical College (ATC), Michael Fowler shared his journey of hard work and leadership, drawing from his extensive experience in various leadership roles.

“Think about the blueprint. An architect already has everything laid out before you lay the first brick. Having faith in yourself, faith in your vision, faith in your ability to overcome will give you the courage, success is not about a look or getting lucky. But, it is about preparation and meeting obligation. So, work hard and never let fear control you. You are more than what you have imagined you can be,” said Michael Fowler Sr., Dougherty Co. Coroner.

Tuesday marked five years since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, an event that had a profound impact on communities worldwide, including Dougherty County.

Fowler played a key role in raising awareness and guiding local response efforts during one of the nation’s deadliest outbreaks. His visibility and expertise has served as a catalyst on how to navigate crisis response effectively in the wake of a pandemic.

“I flew all the way to London, Hawaii, including all kinds of places. Being in Time Magazine and all these different things. I had no idea this was going to happen, but god allowed it to happen. But, I wanna say, work hard and you can accomplish anything,” said Fowler.

Michael Fowler encouraged students to take control of their own success, emphasizing that their future is shaped by their own determination and effort.

“And, you don’t have to be the smartest kid in the classroom. You don’t have to be the finest girl in the classroom. You don’t have to be the most buff football player. You can do all that you want to do; but it all starts right here in your mind. Thank you,” said Fowler.
