Deerfield-Windsor graduates honored after tragic fatal crash

ALBANY, Ga. – One Albany school is paying their respects to two students following a terrible accident.

An Albany school is mourning following an accident that’s left one student dead and another in the hospital fighting for his life.

Students David Mullins and Vansh Patel were involved in a car accident Monday…

Mullins passed away and Patel is currently being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Allen Lowe, the Head of Deerfield-Windsor spoke to us about the impact these two young men made on their class.

“David Mullins and Vansh Patel both were two students who, when they walked the hallways, everybody was elevated emotionally when they were around them. They were vibrant, they were good students, and they just brought a positive demeanor to our hallways each and every day,” said Allen Lowe, Head, Deerfield-Windsor School.

For the staff at Deerfield-Windsor who’ve watched these two grow up from the lower school to the high school on Nottingham Way, the situation is especially disheartening.

“That’s another one of our concerns, is our student body. And, that student population. So, we’re going to try and provide resources for counseling. Provide individuals they can come talk to just to try and help them work through the process as well,” said Lowe.

Currently a memorial fund for David Mullins has been set up to help with funeral expenses.

But the overwhelming support pales in comparison to what the Deerfield-Windsor school is going through.

“…There’s no words to describe what everyone’s going through in our school community. Especially with the families directly involved. And, so, it’s just us trying to get through each and every day trying to put our arms around the families and give as much support as possible,” said Lowe.

And… they ask that the families are kept in mind.

“…Just continue to pray for our school community. But, in particular, those two families involved,” said Lowe.

During a tough time like this, the school is offering up support as they and the students mourn the loss of one friend and pray for the best for another.

Vansh Patel is currently in stable condition according to Lowe.
