Cross pleas guilty of murder in shooting death of Crisp Co. deputy, sentenced to life in prison

CORDELE, Ga. – On Thursday, August 10, 2023 Croshawn Cross pled guilty in Crisp County Superior Court before Judge Chris Hughes to the Malice Murder of Crisp County Deputy Tyee Browne and other crimes.

Cross was sentenced to a composite sentence of Life Without Parole, With A Consecutive Life Sentence, and a Consecutive Five Years To Serve.

It was just over a month ago that Crisp Deputy Tyee Browne was killed during a routine traffic stop following the 4th of July holiday.

The man who Browne stopped, and his killer, Croshawn Cross appeared in Crisp County Superior Court Thursday afternoon, where he pled guilty to charges of Malice Murder.

Cross had shot Browne during a traffic stop early July 5th, before leading law enforcement on a chase before being stopped in Monroe County.

Cross pled guilty to malice and felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of hijacking a vehicle, and six counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony to name a few.

Cross has been sentenced to life without parole, with a consecutive life sentence and a consecutive five years to serve.

Now we reached out to the Crisp County District Attorney’s Office Thursday afternoon to try and get a statement from D.A. Brad Rigby, he has not been able to return our request for comment at this time.
