Crisp County to activate warming shelter
Location: Crisp County Recreation Department, 1205 5 St. N, Cordele, Ga
Purpose: To provide a safe, temporary overnight warm location for individuals and families during
periods of extreme cold or hazardous winter weather.
The Crisp County Recreation Department will be open as a warming center beginning Monday, January
26, at 6:00 PM. Closing times each day may vary depending on when temperatures rise above freezing.
Additional Information:
- Open to residents of Crisp County who need a warm, safe place during extreme weather.
- Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
- All guests must comply with instructions from staff, security, and volunteers.
- Disorderly conduct, threats, violence, or disruptive behavior will result in removal from the facility.
- No weapons of any kind are permitted inside the facility. Guests will be screened.
- Guests are responsible for managing and administering their own medications.
- Refrigeration for medications may not be available.
- Medical care is not provided at the warming center.
- Anyone with a medical emergency will be referred to emergency services
- Guests are expected to maintain the cleanliness of their area.
- Please respect staff, volunteers, and fellow guests.
- Quiet hours may be established overnight to ensure rest and safety.
- Transportation to and from the Warming Center is the responsibility of the individual.
- Emergency transportation assistance may be coordinated through EMA when available.
Guests are encouraged to bring:
- Blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, or personal bedding
- Personal medications (clearly labeled and self-administered)
- Essential personal items (toiletries, phone chargers, etc.)
Prohibited Items and Activities:
- Alcohol, illegal drugs, or drug paraphernalia
- Smoking or vaping (including e-cigarettes)
- Open flames, candles, or heating devices
- Pets (service animals are permitted in accordance with ADA requirements)
Use of the Warming Center is voluntary. Guests assume responsibility for their personal belongings
and well-being while using the facility. Crisp County is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Crisp County appreciates the cooperation of all guests in helping keep this a safe, respectful, and
welcoming environment during severe winter weather.
