Crisp Co. Sheriff’s Office warns citizens of spoofing scam
CORDELE, Ga. – In Crisp County, the sheriffs office is warning residents of scammers…
Who are accusing people of having warrants and demanding they pay a fine.
Well for starters, the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office will never call to ask for money.
And, they wanted to share some steps to avoid potential scammers.
The scammers will pretend to be an organization you know.
Also, mentioning there is a serious problem or prize.
Make sure to not panic if you are in these situations, as scammers want you to act immediately.
“Just be aware that they’re pretending to be the sheriff’s office and we would never ask for for money, you know, back payment over the phone. Their calling and saying that there’s a warrant for their arrest for failure to appear in court. The first thing would be to not trust the number that’s calling. If you hang up, hang up and don’t go back to your recent calls and call that number from your recent calls. Manually dial the number to the business or whoever they’re pretending or who you think they’re pretending to be,” said Teresa Ward, Crisp County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer.
CBS 44 Reporter Gabe Hutton will have more in-depth coverage on scammers next week.
