Crisp Academy rallies for injured football player Wesley Baker
CORDELE, Ga. – Crisp Academy football player Wesley Baker was hospitalized after the team’s fourth game of the season, diagnosed with a severe brain bleed.
In the face of this serious injury, all of south Georgia has rallied behind him.
Baker received the diagnosis on September 7th, the day after the game, and over the following week, support poured in from not just his school, but from communities across the region.
Many wore blue “We’ve Got Your 6” shirts, in honor of his jersey number.
“Wesley Baker was a great kid. He led by example. He didn’t say a whole lot. He just worked hard. And, he starred on both sides of the ball as well as special teams. And, you know, he’s just a classy player and just gave everything he had every single play,” said Price Jones, Head Football Coach, Crisp Academy.
Fortunately, Wesley’s family shared that he’s been released from the hospital, though he’s still in recovery.
Despite this, baker has already spent time with his teammates, showing his strength and commitment.
“Well, I just told them, you know, unfortunately when you play a collision sport like football, things like that can happen. And, unfortunately, it was not any worse than it was. And so, you know, we’re thankful that he got released from the hospital yesterday. He’s back home and he should be on the upper mend. And, so, we’re grateful for that. But, I just told the players, I said, guy he you still got to play hard every minute because you know you know you know you’re not guaranteed more you know,” said Jones.
Baker’s family is asking for prayers during this time.
