Cordele Toys for Tots drive and holiday fundraiser helps hundreds of children
CORDELE, Ga. – Along one of the busiest roads here in the City of Cordele, volunteers from all walks of life are doing their part to help raise money for Toys for Tots.
The fundraiser is being organized by Audrey Butler with Toys for Tots in Crisp county…
And… they’ve been busy all day Friday.
“Today we’re having a monetary and Toy Drive for kids in the community. So families can donate money or new toys so that we can distribute them for Christmas for the children,” said Audrey Butler, event organizer, Toys for Tots.
And… she has plenty of help along 16th Street…
As volunteers from Crisp County’s first response agencies and Marines from the Logistics Base in Albany came up to help out.
“What does it mean? We all come together to serve a common cause: to make sure our community and families are well taken care of during the Christmas season,” said Butler.
In addition to first responders collecting donations up and down the busy road, plenty of others wanted to volunteer their time to help make the holidays a little bit better for some underserved children.
“Our program worked with a lot of children and the children that we work with. We see the need for these families to have a Merry Christmas,” said Sarah Daniel, First Step Healthy Families.
And… while it may not seem like much from passersby, the people out collecting are thankful for the donations they’ve gotten during rush hour.
“Everybody has been very generous. You know, it’s really hard right now, you know, for all the things to have to buy and everything and just to see the generosity that we’re getting, that we’ve gotten, you know, in spite of that, is just really heartwarming. It’s great,” said Whitney Hamilton, Volunteer.
And… if you’re interested in donating to Toys for Tots, you can contact Audrey at 229-322-6663.
