Cordele Police sees uptick in violence, urges residents to avoid large gatherings at local park

CORDELE, Ga. – In a Facebook post, the Cordele Police Department (CPD) released a statement urging residents to avoid large gatherings planned this holiday weekend at Reid Park.

CPD says the warning is NOT to prevent citizens from visiting relatives, attending church services, hunting eggs, or attending other Easter activities in the city.

The warning is directed towards specific gatherings circulating on social media planned at the park.

“Due to a recent uptick in extreme violence that has resulted in the two tragic deaths of local citizens and a third being seriously injured, we are urging citizens not to attend these large gatherings. This violence is believed to be gang-related, with retaliatory shootings possible. Our agency is still actively working with other agencies to bring those responsible to justice and prevent further unnecessary loss of life.”

“These gatherings have in the past resulted in assaults, shootings, DUI’s, property damage, loud noise, extreme amounts of litter, and several other unnecessary problems for our community.”

Cordele PD says they will increase patrols within the community during the holiday weekend.
