Cordele PD provides update on September 1 officer-involved incident
CORDELE, Ga. – The Cordele Police Department continues our internal investigation into the incident that took place on September 1, 2025, during a felony traffic stop in the 500 block of South 14th Street. Based on the findings so far, the decision was made to terminate the officer involved.
In accordance with City of Cordele policy, the officer has the right to appeal this decision through the established appeals process that is available to all City of Cordele employees.
Chief Jalon Heard stated, “After an initial review of the circumstances, it was determined that the officer’s actions did not meet the standards and expectations of the Cordele Police Department. Accountability is essential to maintaining the trust of our community.”
Chief Heard further emphasized, “The Cordele Police Department remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and ensuring our officers uphold the highest level of integrity. The community we serve deserves nothing less.”
This incident will continue to be thoroughly investigated. The department will not be releasing further details at this time. Updates will be provided if additional information becomes available.
