Cooling stations reopened in Albany

ALBANY, Ga. – From Monday, August 7, 2023, through Friday, August 11, 2023, the City of Albany, with the assistance of Dougherty County, will activate Operation Safe Place to give people a place to cool off during the day.

According to current weather reports, temperatures are projected to exceed 100 degrees Monday through Friday.

Below is a list of locations available to anyone needing a break from the heat and the times they will be open throughout the week. Water will be provided at each site:

• Henderson Gym
o Address: 701 Willard Avenue
o Hours of Operation:
• Monday – Friday: 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

• The Albany Transportation Center
o Address: 300 W. Oglethorpe Boulevard
o Hours of Operation:
• Monday – Friday: 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

• The Dougherty County Public Library Central Branch in Downtown
o Address: 300 Pine Avenue
o Hours of Operation
• Monday – Wednesday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
• Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

• The Northwest Library Branch
o Address: 2507 Dawson Road
o Hours of Operation:
• Monday and Thursday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
• Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

• The Southside Library Branch
