Connecting people to local businesses in Albany
Job fair and résumé workshop event held in Albany
ALBANY, Ga. – Today, the Albany Dougherty Economic Development Commission hosted a job fair event connecting people of the community with local businesses.
But, a really unique thing about this event was the résumé workshop hosted by southern point staffing.
“At Southern Point we believe in our mission that we connect people with businesses to provide a better future four our community. What we’re going to do is help individuals out there in our community build a resume, look over it, or maybe make some minor adjustments,” said Derby Langford, Branch Manager; Southern Point Staffing.
Langford says its important people understand that a résumé is just as if not more important than a job interview itself, for it often is your first impression for an employer.
“We believe that a resume is pretty much a business card for an individual to get your foot in the door with individual companies. It’s pretty much a brief screenshot of what you’ve done in the past. You’re going to highlight some of the big things you done or a big impact you’ve made for a company. So, a lot of companies are looking for that talent and we want to be able to highlight and showcase that for each individual,” said Langford.
Whether you’re graduating high school, college or are job searching in general, this event gave individuals and opportunity to showcase their new and improved résumés to over 40 businesses looking to hire local talent.
“We have 48 businesses total. We have everything from healthcare to education and in between. We have the Phoebe Putney Health System, Molsen Core, Concrete Enterprise, Family, P&G is here and hiring on the spot, we have police departments, cities, HR departments, we really do have something for everybody,” said Jessica Zurheide, Director of Business Relations; ADEC.
Zurheide says this event is a perfect learning opportunity for those who are fearful of rejection or lack confidence when applying for jobs…
“Alot of times people are scared are being rejected but businesses will hire you based on your personality as well. so even if you think you don’t qualify for a job if you can put yourself in front of them they can see something you have to offer that might not be on your résumé. When you’re here you are in front of the people who are looking to hire you, so you can have a conversation, meet them, make an impact and make it really personable so that they remember you,” said Zurheide.
