Congressman Bishop provides funding for Putney Park
PUTNEY, Ga. – Parks can be a cornerstone in the community
Congressman Bishop just allocated $685,000 dollars to Putney Park here in Dougherty county.
Congressman Bishop says that there’s a lot of great things the park can bring, highlighting its potential to offer a beautiful connection to nature while uniting the Dougherty county community.
He also envisions it as a versatile space where residents can host events of all sizes.
“Putney Park. This is a great opportunity, a great day for the citizens of Putney George. And because of the fact this is a long time coming and we’re excited. We need a place to meet for our neighborhood watch. We need a place to meet for family reunions, weddings. And we have a nice park here. And, the children gather. We can have weddings. All this is going to be a multi-purpose building. That’s going to be that’s going to benefit this community for years and years to come,” said Anthony Jones, District 6 County Commissioner.
The event featured several speakers who expressed gratitude to the congressman, while also highlighting the numerous benefits the park will offer.
After being proposed long ago, Dougherty county is grateful to see the project finally come to life.
“Always does my heart good to be able to bring back to the middle of southwest Georgia and hear that they’ve heard me. Our hard earned tax dollars to bring them back from Washington and back home, where they belong, so they can help the people back here, who need this help the most. And, of course, the people at Putney have been waiting for this community center to approve this park. And, I’m just so happy that I’m in a position to serve them and want to partner with them, to bring back some resources to make that happen,” said Congressman Sanford Bishop, U.S. Representative, (D) Georgia.
This won’t be Congressman Bishop’s final stop of the week, as he’ll head to Columbus, Georgia, to deliver remarks during the Protect Our Care Healthcare Bus Tour.
