Conger LP Gas grilling safety tips
TIFTON, Ga. – Conger LP Gas provides the community with valuable education on proper grilling techniques and safety measures.
“A 20 pound cylinder just about holds 20 pounds of fuel. One of the things about the swap out cylinders, there’s only 15 pounds of fuel in there, so it’s a little bit less fuel. And, they can do that because they’re storing it on site. So, you’re going to pay the same, if not more for that cylinder. But, if you bring it to me, we’re going to fill it up to the full 80%. So, you’re getting more fuel for your money. So, I am going to show you two different kinds of cylinders. They’re both 20 pound. But, if you look at this older style right here, you can see the roasting on it. These are things that when you come by, we’re going to look for, we’re looking for safety. And, one of the things, too, if you look at this knob, this is an old style knob that’s no longer available on the market. We cannot legally fill that cylinder. It’s illegal to do it doesn’t have the proper safety devices,” said Bill Moore, Sales Manager, Conger LP Gas.
“All of the things are similar, but its new. Everything looks good, the paint is in good shape. I’ve got a gas grill here. And, inside all these are going to be similar, very similar. And, all of your gas grill applications, you’ve got the filler valve here. You got the receiving end with the small regulator on it. It’s very simple to hook up. But, you want to make sure that it’s going all the way in and all the way tight,” said Moore.
“You’re going to cut it on. Sometimes it’s a lighter lock. But, in this case, right here, it’s got an automatic ignition, and then you turn it to on. And, I can hear the burners and I can hear that burners actually light once that’s done, after having made sure that the grates are clean, we are going to preheat it. So that when you put on steaks or chicken or in this case, we’re going to do some hot dogs real quick, then it’s ready for you to cook. You’re not waiting that extra time,” said Moore.
“A lot of times I will use gloves, especially if I’m cooking with steak or chicken or even both. Don’t want to cross-contaminate. So, the gloves protect me. If I took this and I had some chicken breast, I’d put my gloves on, put the chicken on the grill. Then I actually take them off. Then I put on new gloves if I were going to handle the beef, and the same thing if I were to do pork,” said Moore.
“Chicken and pork and beef, you want an internal temperature of 165, especially with chicken that makes sure it’s done. Same thing with pork steaks. You’re going to be how you want it done. Rare, medium rare, or whatever,” said Moore.
“We’ve got hot dogs again. How well you want yours done, if you like the crispy edges, but hot dogs are pretty much already cooked. All you’re doing is trying to heat them by moving around a little bit,” said Moore.
“But, it’s all about being safe. We’ve talked about the grill cylinders and how to hook it up. We want you to be safe there, but it is just as important to watch your food, watch the cross-contamination, watch those things that you don’t necessarily think about, but it’s a protection for you,” said Moore.
