Concerned Citizens That Care & Cordele Lions Club Thanksgiving food distribution event

CORDELE, Ga. – While many are gathering around tables this Thanksgiving, one special organization is making sure no family is left behind.

Johnny and Barbara Dennis, along with members of the Concerned Citizens That Care organization, work tirelessly to make a difference this Thanksgiving.

The group is distributing essential boxes filled with food for needy families at the Cordele Lions Club.

“We have food to eat every day, we don’t realize that there are some people that don’t don’t have what we have,” said Barbara Dennis, Vice President of Concerned Citizens That Care.

The boxes included a variety of items for families.

“We tried to choose goods that would be good for the family for Thanksgiving. Like ham, meal, flour, and rice, the essentials that people need for everyday life,” said Dennis.

This heartfelt initiative didn’t happen overnight. The event’s roots trace back to a simple, yet meaningful idea: God blesses them so that they can bless others.

Barbara Dennis, Vice President for the Concerned Citizens That Care explains how it all began.

“We started back in 2002. A group of individuals from Cordele just got together and thought about feeding people for Thanksgiving and feeding the needy in our community. And, when we started, we only started feeding two families. And, every year it grew and grew and grew. We are also thankful to each and every one who came and helped to put the boxes together today, to all the donations that we have. To the churches, the organizations, the parents, the school system, the kids,” said Dennis.

Barbara Dennis shares what she finds most rewarding about organizing this event.

“We appreciate God blessing us, so we try to bless other people. Some people don’t have family. You know, and some people just don’t have it. So, it’s a wanting to just give back to the community to help others who are in need,” said Dennis.
