Combined sewer separation project leads to major intersection closure, affects Phoebe hospital access

ALBANY, Ga. – Crews closed the 2nd Avenue and Jefferson Street intersection at 7 a.m. this morning, as they continue to work on the combined sewer separation project.

The project includes multiple phases over the next several years to meet an environmental protection division permit requirement to reduce untreated combined sewer flows to the Flint River by June of 2025.

Jefferson Street will stay closed between 7th Avenue and West Society Avenue, and all other intersections will be open to cross over Jefferson.

Detour signs as well as traffic controls are placed to guide drivers around the construction areas. Drivers should be prepared for traffic delays as well.

The closure means all traffic to the emergency center must travel west on 4th Avenue to access the patient drop-off area and parking for the ER. Motorists should follow detours and blue ‘H’ signs to 4th Avenue.

The hospital’s main parking lot will continue to be accessible from 2nd Avenue, but only for traffic coming from the west side of the hospital campus.

That access will change later as work on the project moves farther up Jefferson Street.
