Colquitt County Medical Society award ceremony celebrates contributions of five medical professionals
MOULTRIE, Ga. – The Colquitt County Medical Society recently celebrated the outstanding contributions of five local medical professionals.
This occasion unfolded during the first-ever medical staff meeting held at the recently unveiled Ameris Bank Medical Education building within the premises of Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
“The significance of the awards was honoring some lifetime achievements of physicians that have worked in our society, worked in our county, worked in our hospital for years and years and years. They provided care, they provided leadership for our sort of underserved area for decades to this point. Our local Colquitt County Medical Society plans to offer these as a yearly award, an annual award for any physicians that are recognized by our staff, by our hospital. So, we hope to do this every year and recognize and give recognition to someone that’s provided excellent care or lifetime achievements in our society here,” said Dr. Corey Porteus, Colquitt Regional Pathologist & CCMS President.
The award ceremony not only acknowledged excellent contributions to healthcare, but also signified a pivotal moment for the Colquitt County Medical Society, embodying a chapter of accomplishment and unity within the Colquitt county medical community.
“We were very happy to award Dr. Adcock, an esteemed orthopedic surgeon who served in our community for several decades and even served as our first Chief Medical Officer here at Colquitt Regional. We also were able to award Dr. Tony Moser, who was a pathologist here who recently retired. This year, we were able to provide the first award for a medical student. So, every year, the Colquitt County Medical Society will award a medical student of the year for our local medical school. This year being Destiny SCUVIA. Finally, we gave two awards for distinguished service people who we felt as medical staff were so important to us that help out the medical staff that help out our community; and they were Ellen Sutton, who serves as our medical staff coordinator, as well as Jessica Rivenbark, who’s been very implemented with bringing residency programs, research projects, etc., to southwest Georgia,” said Dr. Michael Brown, Chief Medical Officer.
