MOULTRIE, Ga. – Colquitt County High School is paving the way for the next generation of educators with the Georgia Future Educators Signing Day.
During the nationally recognized Teacher Appreciation Week, schools across the state are celebrating the Georgia Future Educators signing days, and Colquitt County High School is no exception. At the school’s signing ceremony, twelve students were honored for their dedication to pursuing careers as educators.
Among them was Ki’Myra Crawford, who shares her plans for the foreseeable future.
“My future plans are going to other Southern Regional and finishing up Early Childhood. And, then after that, I think I’m going to VSU (Valdosta State University) to finish up and become a Pre-K teacher. I was nervous at first, now I’m excited to start a future. Education is important because you have to have that person lead you on the way to graduate,” said Ki’Myrah Crawford, Georgia Future Educators Signee.

“I do come from a long line of educators. I’m a fourth generation educator myself. My daughter’s in education. It’s part of our family. I always firmly believe that education is much more than a job or a career. It’s a calling. And, we’re so proud of these students for meeting that call. To reiterate the importance of public education and how it is really, it’s the foundation of our communities and our country. These students will have a have an opportunity to positively impact our community for years to come,” said Dan Chappuis, Colquitt County Schools Superintendent.
In support of their goals to increase the number of professionals entering the field of education, Colquitt County High School is providing signees with opportunities for future employment.
“Our students who signed on this future educator day, we offer them a contract. If they’ll go out and get certified, complete their education, we welcome them back to Colquitt county. We love to bring back our alumni. They already understand the pride that we have in our community and the importance of education in Colquitt county. So, we are very excited to bring them back here as teachers to impact the next generation,” said Chappuis.
