Colquitt Co. District Spelling Bee announces winners
MOULTRIE, Ga. – Colquitt county’s brightest spellers are putting their skills to the test in this year’s District Spelling Bee.
The stage as set, dictionaries were out, and the competition was fierce as the 2025 Colquitt County District Spelling Bee commenced.
Thirteen participants competed across 13 challenging rounds, each one bringing them closer to the coveted title.
In the end, Jace Brown of G.E.A.R. Gifted Center emerged victorious, talking home the gold.
“It feels amazing. Honestly, I didn’t think that I would make it this far. But, I did,” said Jace Brown, 2025 Colquitt Co. District Spelling Bee Winner.
Jace, now the district champion, shares how he prepared for the big moment and the strategy that led him to victory.
“You see, in my head, I remember I was studying the list of the words at my house, on a ton of nights, and I just remembered. I saw that word in the list and I just remembered,” said Brown.
Educators in Colquitt county emphasize that spelling is more than just memorization – it serves as a foundation for strong literacy and communication skills that are essential for lifelong learning.
“It was really scary, like being on stage for the first time. But, when you get used to it, you’re just like, all right, I can do this. And, just know, if you ever want to do something bad enough, you find a way to make it happen,” said Brown.
