Coffee Co. suffers cyberattack, no breach to state’s Voter Registration System

COFFEE Co., Ga. – In other recent developments, authorities in Coffee county are utilizing laptops and cellular networks to access the state’s Voter Registration System — that’s because last week, the county’s computer network fell victim to a cyberattack.

While hackers are not believed to have breached Georgia’s Voter Registration System, the county has severed its connection to it as a precautionary measure.

For the time being, officials are resorting to backup systems that are not linked to the compromised network. Investigators suspect the incident to be a ransomware attack.

With a population of just 43,000, Coffee county is a small, predominantly rural area. It gained attention during the 2020 election when pro-Trump operatives infiltrated its office, seeking data to reinforce their claims of voter fraud.
