City officials enact curfews and roadway closures
ALBANY, Ga. – Winter weather is causing major disruptions across the area.
In Albany, some entry points onto the Liberty Expressway are closed due to unsafe conditions. Officials are urging everyone to stay off the roads to keep them clear for first responders.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the Liberty Expressway entry points have reopened. GDOT said excessive amounts of snow led to the closure and snow has been cleared off the roadway and brine solution has been put down.
Only one lane each way of the Liberty Expressway is currently open.
City officials are encouraging people to stay off the roads.
In Sumter county, a local State of Emergency was declared, and a curfew was in place overnight and into this afternoon due to dangerous road conditions. Only essential travel is allowed.
Worth county also implemented a curfew overnight and into the afternoon, limiting travel to emergency vehicles only.
Worth county has extended its curfew until 12 p.m. noon on Thursday.
