City of Tifton, Tifton Urban Redevelopment Agency (TURA) and the Tifton Downtown Development Authority (DDA) contract University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government (UGA’s CVIOG) for Facilitation of Community Planning of Short & Paulk Renaissance Project
TIFTON, Ga. – The City of Tifton, Tifton Urban Redevelopment Agency (TURA) and the Tifton Downtown Development Authority (DDA) have partnered with the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government (UGA’s CVIOG) to facilitate the community-based planning process of the Short & Paulk Renaissance Project.
This planning initiative is made possible through funding awarded by Georgia’s Rural Center, whose support enables the University of Georgia’s CVIOG to lead the development of a comprehensive, community-driven plan for the 9.7-acre site located on S. Main Street. UGA’s CVIOG will work closely with Tifton residents, stakeholders, leaders and visionaries to form a plan that best fits the Tifton community, culture, and current needs.
All three entities (City, TURA and DDA) remain deeply committed to the community’s involvement and the shared visioning for the site, and their decision to engage UGA’s CVIOG reflects this dedication by ensuring that this transformative redevelopment is guided by expert facilitation and strong community collaboration.
The service contract with CVIOG outlines planning conversations and actions beginning as early as February 2026, and the community-based planning process will span several months to allow for thoughtful analysis of public input and responses.
The City, TURA, and DDA continue to encourage those interested in staying informed on the project to sign up for the Community Engagement Group. This group will receive email notification of project news, opportunities to voice opinions, surveys, and more. Signup is still open and can be accessed here.
The 9.7-acre Short and Paulk Renaissance Project Site was purchased by the City, TURA, and DDA in late 2024. The property is located on South Main Street and was the former Tifton location of the Short & Paulk Supply Company.
