City of Omega to swear in new mayor

OMEGA, Ga. – On Tuesday night, the city of Omega will swear in Dickie Robinson as their mayor. We got a chance to speak with him Monday about his vision for the rural Tift county community.

Robinson was elected back in November, and will be serving his first term as mayor starting this year.

Robinson, who has spent most of his life in Omega is thankful to his community for voting him into the mayor’s office.

“…It feels good. I appreciate the opportunity, and I appreciate the people of the city of Omega, for deeming it necessary. And, I’m thankful for the council that I’ve been on for so long in our area. It’s always been a good council…” said Dickie Robinson, mayor-elect, Omega.

When asked about his vision for Omega, Robinson says he wants to focus on main street and make the rural community to appealing to those up the road in Tifton.

“…I hadn’t really set on it, maybe just minor things, try to get the main street coming through, get it cleaned up and presentable more than it is. I mean it is a rural town like you said, small town. But, yet we still want to look our best,” said Robinson.

But, when it comes to the first order of business there, Robinson says there are a couple of places to start….

And, keeping everyone on the same page shouldn’t be a problem.

“I mean it’s a good city, everybody gets along. We don’t have no hiccups anywhere. Everybody loves everybody, and I want to try and keep it that way,” said Robinson.

As new local leaders like Robinson take their seats, in rural Tift county, it’s a sign of good things to come for quiet communities.

Robinson’s swearing in will take place Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Omega City Hall.
