City of Albany to celebrate MLK Day with 46th Annual Commemorative Breakfast, King Day Program/Dream Walk & Community Service Projects

ALBANY, Ga. – The City of Albany has a full day of events planned to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 19. Residents are invited to participate in celebrations that highlight unity, service, and Dr. King’s enduring legacy.

The day begins with the 46th Annual MLK Commemorative Breakfast at Mt. Zion Baptist Church starting at 7:30 a.m. The complimentary breakfast features national visionary Dr. E. Dewey Smith Jr. as keynote speaker and will be led by Orson Burton, president and CEO of United Way of Southwest Georgia. Attendees can also join the MLK Mass Choir, with rehearsals held prior to the event.

The King Day Program and Dream Walk will take place at Shiloh Baptist Church on West Whitney Avenue, beginning with the program at 10 a.m. Civil rights leader JT Johnson will speak, followed by the Dream Walk at noon, celebrating Dr. King’s life and legacy.

For those looking to honor Dr. King through service, Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful is hosting an MLK Day litter pick-up at MLK Park & Walking Track from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers can choose to serve for 30 minutes, one hour, or two hours to take part in a hands-on effort to beautify the neighborhood and put Dr. King’s message of service into action.
