City of Albany extends Operation Safe Place weekend hours

Albany, GA – On Saturday, January 31, 2026, the City of Albany will extend its weekend hours for the Warming Center due to the anticipated cold front. On Saturday, the Warming Center will open at 2 p.m. and remain open until Monday, February 2nd, at 7 a.m. At that point, the Transportation Center will resume its regular business hours, and the Warming Center will resume its usual 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. operating hours.

The City of Albany will also be extending the Warming Center that is currently open evenings until Wednesday, February 4th to Monday, February 9th.

According to the current forecast, overnight freezing temperatures are expected to last through the beginning of February.

The Albany Transit Center at 300 W. Oglethorpe Boulevard will be open from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. beginning Sunday, January 25th, and will resume regular operations beginning at 7 a.m. the following day during this time. The Transit Center will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 8th. It will reopen at 6 p.m. that evening as a warming center.

We will continue to monitor the weather to see if the warming center will need to be extended or any additional days will need to be included.
